North Shore Theatre Group & North Shore Theatre Productions is a not-for-profit, professional company committed to presenting non-musical classic, modern and original works from innovative perspectives throughout the region of New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Connecticut and parts of New England.
NSTG is dedicated to staging plays that challenge as
well as entertain. A vital part of our mission is to offer
professional theatre to Long Island communities that have little exposure to
the dramatic arts. We present theatre that celebrates the human spirit and
strives to touch and reflect the essence of what connects us to one another
by bringing the highest quality theatre to our local audiences.
History
NSTG was founded in November, 2001 and in January 2002, the company launched its popular
Whodunit Mystery Reading Series at selected area bookshops and libraries on Long Island to raise reading awareness in Nassau and Suffolk Counties.
In May 2002, we presented our inaugural stage production of
Barrymore’s Ghost in Oyster Bay. The play
featured Jason Vail in a solo, tour de force performance. The
three-week run was enthusiastically received by North Shore residents
and served as a source of professional experience for several aspiring
Nassau County theatre artists.
In December 2003, we presented our free production of
A Christmas Carol at Christ Church Parish Hall and the Oyster Bay-East Norwich Public Library, including a special matinee performance at the Doubleday Babcock Senior Center for Nassau County seniors unable to drive or without transportation. For this production, North Shore Theatre Group was awarded a distinguished NGA Grant for its contribution to the arts in Nassau County. The award was made possible, in part, with public funds from the New York State Council on the Arts' Decentralization Program, administered by the Long Island Arts Council at Freeport.
Now
in its seventh year, North Shore Theatre Group continues to provide work and a collaborative environment
for emerging local artists on Long Island.
